Dialogue with BOVAEP Rep Sarawak

02 April, 2026 – MIEA Committee Members Dato Alex Ting, Sandra Lee and Corina Ng and myself Thomas Sim (acting as 2025/27 Chairman) had a dialogue with BOVAEP Rep Sarawak Sr Terrance Yap regarding the below matters:

  • illegal firms in Sarawak
  • rampant non-compliance of banners and advertisements
  • multiple branch training centers without proper registration
  • REN attached to non-Sarawak Estate Agency Firms practicing in Sarawak
  • Lodging of complaint to BOVAEP

Sr Terrance has given support and blessings on working with the various authorities and escalate the matters to the BOVAEP Board.

Jelajah Sarawak Chapter 2

25-31 May, 2026 (Gawai Holidays) Our objectives are:

  1. To drive to Sibu from Kuching through the Longest River Bridge – The Batang Lupar 1.
  2. Networking with REN members at locations along Bintulu – Miri, Sarawak.
  3. Promote MIEA Sarawak Branch NCC and RRP courses for local reach.
  4. HELP DESK on issues relating to renewal and professional practice.
  5. Reaching out to new members.

Key milestone:

  1. We managed to meet up with Program Head Sr Thah Lieng Hin of University Technology of Sarawak. Until 2026, there are about 100 students in the Property and Construction Management Degree Program recognized by BOVAEP.
  2. We also managed to meet up with Oriental Real Estate Group in Bintulu, and MIEA Sarawak Branch has progressed to cover Bintulu for RRP and NCC when the numbers of participants are adequate to start a class.
  3. We have visited our Immediate Past Chairman Sr Robert Ting, of WTWY – CH Williams, Talhar, Wong and Yeo, Miri Branch. This is a continuous effort to foster fellowship among practitioners in the Real Estate Agency Practice Profession.

Dialogue with MBKS & LHDN

A dialogue was held on 17 April, 2026 at MBKS (Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan) and we were received by the Secretary of MBKS together with their Legal team, enforcement and advertising division (on banners, signboards and flyers).

The below items were discussed:

  • Illegal agents putting banners
  • Setting up of office without proper authority approval
  • Non-compliance of advertising rules, size of banner, etc.
  • Advertisement which are of soliciting nature

Another dialogue was carried out with LHDN (Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri) on 4th May, 2026 at Wisma Hasil, and we were received by the Senior Officer (Kanan) of LHDN with regards to Businesses, Professions and Trades Licensing Ordinance, Sarawak for Trade Licence.

The below items were discussed:

  • Illegal operation of unregistered Estate Agency Firms in Kuching
  • Registration of Trade Licence as “Real Estate Agency” or “Real Estate Agent” under the Businesses, Professions and Trades Licensing Ordinance of Sarawak
  • Enforcement procedures of LHDN in Kuching and Other Division of Sarawak
